Eagle's Nest Trail Builders
A social volunteer group for the purpose of building and maintaining trails in the Eagle's Nest neighborhood in Banner Elk, NC
Upcoming Projects

Overall Vision:  To create destination stops along the trails with easily recongnizable names and features such as waterfalls, rain shelters, lookout points, pastures, etc.  This will make talking about the trails be much more meaningful versus having just trail names and will provide a clear map for guests or renters to follow a very clear map including difficulty markers, mileage, geo-points, destinations, etc.  We want to have a good flow where people don't get lost or get caught in hazardous situations.  Also, we want to be able to allow kids to have a clear and safe path where they can ride.  All of this combined with good maps and locator beacon technologies, Eagle's Nest will be a highly valuable asset to our owners and guests.  Fyi...from Beaver Pond, the trails run Northeast on its way down to Buckeye Lake.  Always carry a compass and know how to get yourself out in an emergency.

  • Beaver Pond - Dizzy Beaver Playground - create an obstacle course and track around Beaver Pond's non-mud borders.  This could serve as a training ground for teaching new riders of ATVs and motorcycles, while also having some fun mounds for some air time!

  • Beaver-To-Buckeye Run - This will be a new trail starting at the water-flow from the Beaver Pond snaking down along the creek water line all the way down to the giant waterfall rock that is located downstream.  This new trail will serve as the main "artery" trail for a bunch of side trails that will branch off of this main trail.

  • Ridgeline Trail Black Diamond Hill Workarounds - This is partially complete, but still needs a few stumps removed via an excavator.

  • Ridgeline Power Drop - This short run will peel off of the existing Ridgeline Trail just beyond the powerlines underpass and will provide access to get to the non-Eagle's Nest trails that are under the power lines.

  • COMPLETED - Boulder Run Parallel Logging Road - This old logging road runs parallel with Boulder Run about 50' into the woods.  This simply needs to be cleaned up with downed trees.  We also need to extend the end of it to go past the back end of Lot 109.
